2021 ROOT RIVER COUNCIL PHOTO CONTEST RULES
 
The Root River Council invites photographers to enter up to 3 photographs in our 2021 Photography Competition for Youth and Adults. You must read and agree to the following rules, terms and conditions before submitting any photos!

The 2021 RRC Photography Competition (the "Contest") is open to ALL photographers. Photo subjects must be located in or around the Root River from Horlick Dam down to and including the Main Street drawbridge. There is a $10 entrance fee for each image submitted, payable online at www.rootrivercouncil.org. The entrance fee is waived for the Youth Competition for participants aged sixteen or younger at the time of the submittal deadline. Council Members,
Judges, and their families are not eligible for prizes.

YOUR RIGHTS
You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit -- including ownership-- other than those rights licensed in the following sentence. By submitting your photo, you hereby grant to the Root River Council a royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, and publicly display the photographs you submit.  If desired, the photographer may include their name as signature or watermark on lower right corner of image. All recognizable subject people in submitted photos must be willing to have their picture used in Root River Council print and online communications. Photographers must be able to document consent of human subjects to avoid disqualification.  
 
WHAT TO ENTER
We're looking for photography representing the diversity of life that thrives in and along our river, hidden discoveries, and the plain and simple beauty. We’re looking for both the natural and man-made connections to the river.    
         
There are 3 categories in both Youth and Adult Competitions to be considered by the judges:
Human Interest
River meets City (intersection of the River with the urban environment)
Nature

HOW TO ENTER The following information must accompany all submissions:
  • category
  • location where the image was taken
  • name of the photographer
  • photographer’s thought process (50 words or less) behind creating the image
  • payment (Adult Competition)
Each photo must be submitted electronically, by the following method:
Use the form on the website with all required information and send to rrcphotocontest@gmail.com. Maximum file size per email is 20MB.
 
SUGGESTED IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS
Images will be printed and mounted in 8”x10”size for judging.
Recommended image size is 1800 pixels on the longest side.
 
ELIGIBILITY AND JUDGING
Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, relationship to the river, and overall artistic merit. Digital enhancement by the photographer for artistic effect is allowed, but not required. The judges will be members of the UWP Art Department and RAM for all categories except the People’s Choice category, for which everyone present at the public showing event can vote. The Root River Council shall determine winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions made by the judges are final.

DEADLINES
Deadline for submitting digital entries is 11:59 pm Central Standard Time on March 21st 2021. Prints of the finalists will be mounted for public viewing, at the Root River Council Annual Meeting, April 21st 2021, 6:30pm. Winners will also be announced in the Racine Journal Times, the Racine County Eye, and the Root River Council Facebook Page. The Root River Council reserves the right to adjust any deadlines.
