2020 Guided Bird Walks Along The Root River Parkway

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the gatherings for the bird walks are suspended until further notice.  Please check back for updates.   Thank you for your understanding.


There will be bird walks beginning in April along the Rood River Parkway, in Colonial Park on April 29th, May 6th, May 13th and May 20th.

2019 DNR Steelhead Open House

The Wisconsin DNR Fisheries is having their 11th annual open house at the Root River Steelhead Facility. This is a family-free event with lots of fish activities for the whole family.

​Root River Counil held a Do You Know Racine? Trivia Night at the Brickhouse. Thank you to Brickhouse, Doug Nicholson, the Root River Roller Derby team and a number of those that helped sponsor and donate to our fundraising night. 

​Open House Steelhead Facility October 14, 2017

Every year the Wisconsin DNR has an open house event, free to the public to view the steelhead facility. This event has activities, refreshments and opportunities to see the fish up close! The Root River Council was happy to participate. 

Root River Paddle Challenge May 7, 2017

​The Root River provides a diverse set of paddling conditions as it winds its way through Caledonia in Racine County. Depending upon water levels and sections paddled you can get everything from quiet lake paddling to fast rapids in an environment that ranges from scenic rural woodlands to parks and wetlands.

Starting at Linwood Park, 5 Mile Road – Franksville, Village of Caledonia and ending at the Horlick Dam. The course is approximately 7.5 miles and takes about 2-3 hours to complete

Celebrate Earth Day at the Garlic Mustard Pickin' Party! May 6, 2017

On this Earth Day event we will pull and bag garlic mustard from the Colonial Park floodplain. Trained crew chief will lead volunteers across the bridge into Colonial Park, where we will pull and bag the garlic mustard. It's easy to identify and pull. It's a family event! kids can pull, too. The event ended with some fun Celtic music.
